Apart from the issue of natural and environmental disasters in small island developing States and the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of the Small Island Developing States, cooperation with the Department for Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development has extended to the design of indicators for human and economic losses due to natural disasters.

II. Natural and environmental disasters 21. Small island developing States are located among the most vulnerable regions in the world in relation to the intensity and frequency of natural and environmental disasters and their increasing impact, and face disproportionately high economic, social and environmental consequences.
