In addition, the Syrian Arab Republic played a major role at the Fourth Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the Basel Convention, held in Malaysia in 1998, in producing the decision prohibiting the movement of hazardous wastes from the industrialized States of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to developing countries.
وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، كان للجمهورية العربية السورية دور رئيسي في الاجتماع الرابع لمؤتمر الأطراف في اتفاقية بازل المعقود في ماليزيا في عام 1998 وذلك في التوصل إلى القرار الذي يحظر حركة نقل النفايات الخطرة من الدول الصناعية الأعضاء في منظمة التعاون والتنمية في الميدان الاقتصادي إلى البلدان النامية.
