In this connection, the Committee recalls that there had been a ceiling for permanent appointments: by section V, paragraph 2, of its resolution 51/226, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to make efforts to achieve the level of 70 per cent of permanent appointments in posts subject to geographical distribution.
