In accordance with General Assembly resolution 45/264, the coordination segment of the Council should also be devoted to the consideration of the implementation of the agreed conclusions on the theme of the 1995 coordination segment of the Council.

The Council had before it the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the agreed conclusions on the theme of the 1995 coordination segment of the Council relating to coordinated follow-up by the United Nations system and implementation of the results of the major international conferences organized by the United Nations in the economic, social and related fields (E/1996/59).
