Significant progress has also been made in enacting legislation for the protection of indigenous people and people of African descent; such legislation includes the Statute of Autonomy for the Autonomous Regions of the Atlantic Coast and the Act governing the Communally Owned Property of the Indigenous Peoples and Ethnic Communities of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua.
