Indeed, the use of the dowry in national traditional culture served to symbolize the legal binding together of the spouses in matrimony.
ولا شكّ في أنّ اللجوء إلى المهر في الثقافة التقليدية الوطنية يكرّس الرابط القانوني الذي يجمع الزوجين في عشّ الزوجية.

This discrimination does in fact encourage the practice of the dowry, and hence the related violations mentioned above.

36. She sought clarification as to the recourse available to women to request maintenance in excess of the amount of the dowry restituted to them in case of divorce, should that amount be insufficient to maintain their living standards.
36 - وطلبت مزيدا من التوضيحات عن وسائل الانتصاف المتاحة للمرأة التي تطلب نفقة تتجاوز مبلغ المهر المعاد إليها في حالة الطلاق، إذا كان هذا المبلغ غير كاف للاحتفاظ بمستوى معيشتهن.
