Switzerland notes with pleasure the intensive efforts of the First Preparatory Committee for the United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty to arrive at a shared concept of what such an instrument should be.

The secretariat well recalls the scepticism with which the idea was first received in the Committee, then in the Open-ended Working Group, and even in the early days of the First Preparatory Committee.

Unfortunately, however, very few specific results followed. إلا أنه لسوء الطالع تبع ذلك تحقيق قلة قليلة من النتائج المحددة، بل إن أعمال الدورة التحضيرية الأولى للمؤتمر الاستعراضي لمعاهدة عدم الانتشار لعام 2005 عجزت عن تحقيق توافق في الآراء على المسائل الإجرائية، خاصة ضرورة تقديم الدول الأطراف تقارير منتظمة عن تنفيذ التـزاماتها بنـزع السلاح وعدم الانتشار النوويين.

In accordance with the recommendation of the First Preparatory Committee for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, to be endorsed by the General Assembly, the first open-ended informal intersessional meeting of the Preparatory Committee will be held on Monday, 10, and Tuesday, 11 January 2011, in Conference Room 1 (NLB).
