In accordance with resolution 1221 (1999), the Committee on 12 February submitted its report to the Council (S/1999/147), in which, inter alia, it supported the recommendations made by the Secretary-General in his report on Angola (S/1999/49) for improving the implementation of the measures imposed against UNITA.

7. On 12 February 1999, as requested in paragraph 8 of Security Council resolution 1221 (1999) of 12 January, the Committee submitted a report to the Council (S/1999/147), containing recommendations by the Secretary-General and proposals by the Committee for improving the implementation of the measures imposed against UNITA.
7 - وفي 12 شباط/فبراير 1999، قدمت اللجنة تقريرا إلى المجلــس (S/1999/147)، وفقا للمطلوب في الفقرة 8 من قرار مجلس الأمن 1221 (1999) المؤرخ 12 كانون الثاني/يناير. الذي تضمّن توصيات الأمين العام ومقترحات اللجنة لتحسين تنفيذ التدابير المفروضة على يونيتا.

4. At its 4129th meeting held in April 2000, the Security Council adopted resolution 1295 (2000) and requested the Secretary-General to establish a Monitoring Mechanism to collect relevant information and investigate relevant leads relating to any allegations of violations of sanctions with a view to improving the implementation of the measures imposed against UNITA.
4 - واتخذ مجلس الأمن القرار 1295 (2000)، في جلسته 4129 المعقودة في نيسان/أبريل 2000 وطلب إلى الأمين العام أن ينشئ آلية رصد لتقوم بجمع معلومات ذات صلة بالأمر والتحقيق في أي معلومات ذات صلة تتعلق بادعاءات بوقوع انتهاكات للجزاءات، وذلك لتحسين تنفيذ التدابير المفروضة على يونيتا.

(a) To collect information and investigate reports, including through visits to the countries concerned, relating to the violation of the measures imposed against UNITA with respect to arms and related matériel, petroleum and petroleum products, diamonds and the movement of UNITA funds as specified in the relevant resolutions and information on military assistance, including mercenaries;

In its resolution 1295 (2000), adopted on 18 April 2000, the Council requested the Secretary-General to establish a monitoring mechanism to collect additional relevant information relating to violations of the sanctions measures, investigate any relevant leads initiated by the Panel of Experts and report periodically to the Committee with a view to improving the implementation of the measures imposed against UNITA.
