وفي هذا السياق، نعيد التأكيد من جديد على موقف بلادي الثابت بتأييد عملية السلام في الشرق اﻷوسط التي بدأت في مدريد عام ١٩٩١ على أساس قـرارات مجلس اﻷمن ٢٤٢ )١٩٦٧( و ٣٣٨ )١٩٧٣( و ٤٢٥ )١٩٧٨( ومبدأ اﻷرض مقابل السلام.

In order to justify its illegal activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, Israel argues that no mention was made of the principle of land for peace, either in the Madrid Conference or in the subsequent agreements signed within the Middle East peace process, and it contends that any reference to this principle would only serve to undermine the process.

11. There has been significant progress in the peace process which began in Madrid in 1991. The way is open for a historic reconciliation between Arabs and Israelis on the basis of the principle of " land for peace " .

It has been our consistent position that the long-awaited peace in the region can be attained only through the full implementation of all relevant General Assembly and Security Council resolutions, particularly Security Council resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973) and 425 (1978), and on the basis of the principle of land for peace.

Syria has always supported, as it does today, this strategic option: to achieve peace Israel must completely withdraw from the Syrian Golan to the fourth line of June 1967; it must withdraw from Southern Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories, including Arab Jerusalem; and it has to guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in implementation of United Nations resolutions and of the principle of land for peace.
لقد أكدت سورية دائما وتؤكد اليوم أن خيارها الاستراتيجي من أجل تحقيق السلام يقتضي الانسحاب اﻹسرائيلي الكامل من الجولان السوري المحتل إلى خط الرابع من حزيران/يونيه ١٩٦٧، ومن جنوب لبنان واﻷراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة، بما فيها القدس العربية، وضمان الحقوق المشروعة للشعب الفلسطيني، تنفيذا لقرارات اﻷمم المتحدة ذات الصلة، ومبدأ اﻷرض مقابل السلام.
