The symposium was created to empower youth to participate in, strengthen and reform the United Nations and to galvanize youth input through regional and local implementation of the United Nations World youth programme and Agenda 21, chapter 25, and to overcome the obstacles that hinder youth from participation in United Nations decisions.

458. Emphasizing the importance of integrating the conclusions of the United Nations World conferences into the human rights monitoring process, she underlined the importance of the round table on human rights treaty bodies’ approaches to women’s health, held at Glen Cove in 1996.
٤٥٧ - وبعد أن أكدت أهمية إدماج نتائج المؤتمرات العالمية لﻷمم المتحدة في عملية رصد حقوق اﻹنسان، شددت على أهمية اجتماع المائدة المستديرة لهيئات معاهدات حقوق اﻹنسان بشأن نهج حقوق اﻹنسان في مجال صحة المرأة، المعقود في غلين كوف في نيويورك في عام ١٩٩٦.

It was in that context that the Republic of Korea was this year honoured to be the first recipient of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt International Disability Award in recognition of my country's noteworthy progress towards the fulfilment of the United Nations World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons.

In response to a request for clarification, the UNEP Senior Legal Officer explained that there were precedents of bodies being constituted outside the United Nations system and subsequently being embraced by the system, citing the example of the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
