6. The Chairman pointed out that the main task before the session was to consider and finalize the Provisional Scientific and Technical Guidelines of the Commission, which are aimed at assisting coastal States in preparing submissions regarding the outer limits of their continental shelves.
٦ - وأشار الرئيس إلى أن المهمة اﻷساسية للدورة هي دراسة ووضع صيغة نهائية لمشروع المبادئ التوجيهية العلمية والتقنية للجنة التي ترمي إلى مساعدة الدول الساحلية في إعداد مطالباتها بشأن الحدود الخارجية لجروفها القارية.

1. At its fifth session the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf decided that at its next (sixth) session it would, inter alia, examine the technical facilities of the Secretariat and its logistical preparedness for receiving submissions of coastal States regarding the outer limits of their continental shelves (CLCS/12, para. 21).
١ - قررت لجنة حدود الجرف القاري في دورتها الخامسة أن تقوم في دورتها المقبلة )السادسة( بأمور منها دراسة المرافق التقنية اللازمة لﻷمانة العامة واستعدادها سوقيا لتلقي بيانات الدول الساحلية بشأن الحدود الخارجية لجروفها القارية )CLCS/12، الفقرة ٢١(.

(a) To invite States parties to the Convention that intend to establish the outer limits of their continental shelves beyond 200 nautical miles to submit particulars of such limits to the Commission within 10 years of the entry into force of the Convention for that State (article 4 of annex II to the Convention);
