24. A total of three positions are proposed for the Africa II Division of the Department of Political Affairs at Headquarters to provide substantive backstopping, as follows:

50. The above proposal would require the establishment of three positions (1 D-2, 1 P-3 and 1 General Service (Other level)) to be funded from general temporary assistance in the amount of $451,200 for the duration of 2008.

101. Three additional Human Resources Officer (P-3) posts are requested for the Quality Assurance Unit in the Quality Assurance and Information Management Section, for conversion of three positions currently funded under general temporary assistance (see A/63/767, paras. 236-247).

The variance between the 2013 requirements and the 2012 appropriation is attributable mainly to the delayed effect of the creation of a position of Political Affairs Officer (P-3) in 2012, which was budgeted with a 50 per cent vacancy rate and to the proposed creation of three positions of Drivers that were previously recruited as individual contractors.

At the same time, in view of the assumption by the Mission of asset management support functions with respect to United Nations police, it is proposed to strengthen the Section through the establishment of three positions of Communications Assistant (United Nations Volunteers) and three positions of Information Technology Assistant (United Nations Volunteers).

I.5 The conversion to established posts of three positions (1 P-3, 1 P-2 and 1 General Service (Principal level)) currently funded from general temporary assistance is proposed for the Ethics Office (see A/62/6 (Sect. 1), para. 1.98).
