In relation to paragraph 2 of the note by the Secretary-General, the view was expressed that this report, being a follow-up report that does not address the entire UNEP mandate, especially in the integration of trade, environment and development, cannot provide an input to the report that will be submitted to the General Assembly on the strengthening of United Nations activities in the area of environment.
٥٥٢ - فيما يتعلــق بالفقرة ٢ من مذكرة اﻷمين العام، أعــرب عن رأي مفاده أن هذا التقرير، نظرا لكونه تقرير متابعة لا يتناول ولاية برنامج اﻷمم المتحدة للبيئة بكاملها، لا سيما فــي مجال التكامل بين التجارة والبيئة والتنمية، فإنــه لا يمكن له أن يقدم إسهاما في التقرير الذي سيقدم إلــى الجمعية العامة عن تعزيز أنشطة اﻷمم المتحدة في مجال البيئة.

1. In its resolution 53/59 B of 3 December 1998, the General Assembly encouraged the Secretary-General “to develop further his proposals for the reorientation of United Nations activities in the area of public information and communications, taking into account the views of Member States” and further requested him “to submit his detailed plan thereon to the Committee on Information for consideration at its twenty-first session in 1999”.
