6. Encourages the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat as well as other relevant United Nations entities to maintain their efforts to raise awareness of gender issues across the United Nations system;

33. The Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat expressed its readiness to cooperate fully in the preparations for the Eleventh Congress and to participate in it, since the proposed topics were directly related to primary concerns of the Division.

The meeting was a follow-up to the meeting held in 1996 in Glen Cove, New York, organized by UNFPA in collaboration with OHCHR and the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat.

12. In order to optimize resources and avoid duplication, the Director has maintained close contact with entities of the United Nations system, in particular the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).

In May 2005, the Office co-sponsored with the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat an expert group meeting on good practices in combating and eliminating violence against women, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 58/185 of 22 December 2003 requesting the Secretary-General to conduct an in-depth study on all forms and manifestations of violence against women.
44- وفي أيار/مايو 2005، تَشارك المكتب مع شعبة النهوض بالمرأة التابعة للأمانة العامة في رعاية اجتماع للخبراء بشأن الممارسات الجيدة في مكافحة العنف ضد المرأة والقضاء عليه، عملا بقرار الجمعية العامة 58/185 المؤرخ 22 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2003، الذي طلبت فيه الجمعية إلى الأمين العام إجراء دراسة متعمقة لجميع أشكال ومظاهر العنف ضد المرأة.

4. At the 12th meeting, on 9 October, statements were made by the Director of the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat and the Interim Manager/Director of the International Training and Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) (see A/C.3/57/SR.12).

Ms. Connors introduced the report on implementation of the recommendations adopted at the fourth inter-committee meeting and seventeenth meeting of chairpersons (HRI/MC/2006/6), which included information on activities of the treaty bodies, OHCHR and the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat.

UN-Women was formed by consolidating and transferring the existing mandate and functions of the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat, as well as those of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW).
وشُكلت هيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة بضم ونقل كل الولايات والمهام الحالية لمكتب المستشارة الخاصة للقضايا الجنسانية والنهوض بالمرأة وشعبة النهوض بالمرأة في الأمانة العامة وصندوق الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي للمرأة ومعهد الأمم المتحدة الدولي للبحث والتدريب.

The resolution required the consolidation and transfer to UN-Women of the existing mandates and functions of the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Secretariat along with that of other entities of the United Nations common system.
