In the course of their consultations of the whole today, the members of the Security Council reviewed the recommendation on Albania and agreed that, as in the case of the previous recommendations, you should be similarly requested to implement the actions contained in the above-mentioned recommendation on Albania.

5. An international meeting on Albania took place in Rome on 26 May 1997 under the chairmanship of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Italy, Mr. Lamberto Dini, and with the participation of Mr. Franz Vranitzky, Personal Representative of the Chairman-in-Office of OSCE.

6. The meeting paved the way for a ministerial conference on Albania to be convened in Rome to assess the progress in the international efforts in favour of the political and economic recovery of Albania, give impetus to the process and provide direction for future action.

In its conclusions on Albania of 2006, the European Committee of Social Rights recalled that according to article 19, paragraph 4, of the European Social Charter, States must eliminate all legal and de facto discrimination concerning access to public and private housing for migrant workers and that, accordingly, no legal or de facto restrictions on subsidized housing may be implemented.

Mr. Solana told me that NATO has two major objectives with respect to the situation in Kosovo: first, to help achieve a peaceful resolution of the crisis by contributing to the response of the international community; and secondly, to promote stability and security in neighbouring countries, with particular emphasis on Albania and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
