Her delegation urged the Committee to endorse the proposed international plan of action on cooperatives in development beyond 2012 and would be tabling a draft resolution on cooperatives in social development.

Statistics: Several measures may be undertaken to improve statistics for and about cooperatives in view of integrating statistics on cooperatives in regular programmes of the national statistical service and participate in international efforts to improve cooperative statistics, including the establishment of a uniform set of definitions for use by national statistical services.

Mr. Srivali (Thailand): At the outset, my delegation would like to express our appreciation to the Mongolian Government, the principal sponsor of the resolutions on cooperatives in social development, as well as the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and relevant United Nations specialized agencies for their efforts in coordinating and organizing activities for the 2012 International Year of Cooperatives.
