Article 5 of the Convention calls on States parties to take all appropriate measures to modify the patterns of conduct of men and women " with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices that are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " .

States are further required to take steps to eliminate prejudices and change practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women.
ويتعين على الدول كذلك أن تقوم بخطوات للقضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على الاعتقاد بكون أي من الجنسين أدنى أو أعلى من الآخر، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة().

194. The Committee emphasizes that article 5 of the Convention stipulates that all appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women be taken, with a view to the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices that are based on stereotyped roles for men and women.
١٩٤ - وتشدد اللجنة على الالتزام المنصوص عليه في المادة ٥ من الاتفاقية بأن تتخذ الدول اﻷطراف جميع التدابير المناسبة لتعديل اﻷنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات اﻷخرى القائمة على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة.

However, Articles 2(f) and 5(a) of CEDAW call for abolishing and modifying such patterns and eliminating all practices based on stereotyped roles for men and women.

Turkmenistan is taking all appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women.
85- تتخذ تركمانستان جميع التدابير المناسبة لتعديل الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة لتحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوق أحد الجنسين أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة.

One example of such an interpretation can be found in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which speaks of the need for a change in the traditional roles of both men and women in society and in the family, these being based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women (preamble and art. 5).

Article 5 (a) of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, in particular, notes the need for appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to eliminating prejudices and practices which are based on the inferiority or superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women.

29. Under article 5 of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, States parties are to take all appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women.
29- وتنص المادة 5 من اتفاقية القضاء على جميع أشكال التمييز ضد المرأة على أن تتخذ الدول الأطراف جميع التدابير المناسبة لتغيير الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة بهدف القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على الاعتقاد بكون أي من الجنسين أدنى أو أعلى من الآخر أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة.

Article 5(b) reinforces this obligation by providing that States must take " all appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " .
وتعزز المادة 5(ب) هذا الالتزام حيث تنص على أن تتخذ الدول " جميع التدابير المناسبة لتعديل الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوّق أحد الجنسين، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة " .

In addition, article 5 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women urges State parties to take measures to eliminate " prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " , acknowledging the role of customs and traditions in perpetuating violence against girls.

43. The issue of gender with respect to certain social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices, customary and all other practices, which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes, or on stereotyped roles for men and women are being discussed more openly over the airwaves in the Bahamas.
43 - تجرى مناقشة أكثر انفتاحا عبر موجات الأثير في جزر البهاما لمسألة الجنسانية في صلتها ببعض الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى، التي تقوم على الاعتقاد بكون أي من الجنسين أدنى أو أعلى من الآخر، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة.

160. Under paragraph (a) of this article States parties are required to take all appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women.
