A revised version of the Istanbul Protocol: Manual on the Effective Investigation and Documentation of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (HR/P/PT/8/Rev.1) was published by the Office in July 2004 and is available in all United Nations official languages.

14. In cases of allegations of torture, illtreatment or executions, investigations should be conducted in accordance with the Principles on the Effective Prevention and Investigation of Extralegal, Arbitrary and Summary Executions and the Principles on the Effective Investigation and Documentation of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
