An important achievement was the elaboration of the draft declaration on the Enhancement of Cooperation between the United Nations and regional arrangements or agencies in the maintenance of international peace and security.

1. Approves the Declaration on the Enhancement of Cooperation between the United Nations and Regional Arrangements or Agencies in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security, the text of which is annexed to the present resolution;

Expresses its appreciation to the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization for its important contribution to the elaboration of the text of the Declaration on the Enhancement of Cooperation between the United Nations and Regional Arrangements or Agencies in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security,

In this context, it stresses the importance of the adoption by the General Assembly of the Declaration on the Enhancement of Cooperation between the United Nations and Regional Arrangements or Agencies in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security (see resolution 49/57, annex).

Reflecting interest in the regional approach, in 1994 the General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Enhancement of Cooperation between the United Nations and Regional Arrangements or Agencies in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security.
وإذ أبدت الجمعية العامة اهتمامها بالنهج الإقليمي، فقد اعتمدت في عام 1994 إعلانا بشأن تعزيز التعاون بين الأمم المتحدة والتنظيمات أو الوكالات الإقليمية في مجال صون السلام والأمن الدوليين.

At its 1994 session, the Special Committee had unanimously adopted the draft declaration on the Enhancement of Cooperation between the United Nations and regional arrangements or agencies in the maintenance of international peace and security, established on the basis of the Russian proposal.

In recognition of the significance of the security/refugees nexus, I concluded in October a memorandum of understanding with High Commissioner Ogata on the Enhancement of Cooperation between the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the OSCE secretariat.
