In view of the lack of agreement between the parties and deadlocked political situation reported by the Secretary-General, the Security Council requested him to submit an interim report on the evolution of the situation and on the Mission's size and concept of operation, with further details on the possible reduction of MINURSO staff, including administrative and civilian personnel, within three months of the adoption of the resolution.

By virtue of resolution 1862 (2009), the Security Council requested the Secretary-General to provide to it a report on the evolution of the situation, and on the compliance by both parties with their obligations, no later than six weeks after the adoption of the resolution.

I wish to refer, in particular, to paragraph 119 in which the Commission indicated that, pursuant to paragraph 2 of resolution 1053 (1996) and subject to the concurrence of the Security Council, it intended to continue its work with a view to following up its investigations, pursuing any further allegations of violations and making periodic reports on the evolution of the situation with regard to compliance with the relevant Council resolutions.
