WTO 47. The Working Group on the Interaction between Trade and Competition Policy (WGTCP) was established at the WTO Singapore Ministerial Conference in December 1996 and handles the work and development of competition matters in the WTO, focusing on specific trade policy issues.

Paragraph 22 of the Singapore Ministerial Declaration provides that the technical cooperation programme of the WTO secretariat shall be made available to developing and, in particular, least-developed country members to facilitate their participation in the work of the WTO Working Group on the Interaction between Trade and Competition Policy (WGTCP) which is established in paragraph 20 of the Declaration.

Interestingly, the European Community, in its submission to the eleventh meeting of the WTO Working Group on the Interaction between Trade and Competition Policy, supports the idea of " flexibility " and " progressivity " in the introduction and implementation of national competition laws in conformity with the kind of multilateral framework on competition which they suggest for adoption at the WTO.
15- ومن الطريف أن الاتحاد الأوروبي يؤيد، في وثيقته المقدمة إلى الاجتماع الحادي عشر للفريق العامل المعني بالتفاعل بين التجارة وسياسات المنافسة والتابع لمنظمة التجارة العالمية(5) فكرة " المرونة " و " التقدمية " في وضع وتنفيذ قوانين المنافسة الوطنية وفقاً لنوع الإطار المتعدد الأطراف للمنافسة الذي يقترح الاتحاد اعتماده في منظمة التجارة العالمية.

It should be noted in this connection that, during the discussions of the WTO Working Group on the Interaction between Trade and Competition Policy, * all parties appeared to agree that it would not be appropriate to apply the binding dispute settlement procedures of the WTO to all provisions of a possible multilateral framework on competition policy.
