In his most recent report on the Khmer Rouge trials (A/67/380), the Secretary-General highlighted the many challenges faced by the Extraordinary Chambers, in particular the acute financial crisis that could jeopardize the future operations of the Court.

In his previous report on the Khmer Rouge trials, however, the Secretary-General indicated that that timeline had been underestimated, in part as a result of the complex dimensions of running a trilingual hybrid court (A/67/380, para. 57).

33. Also at the 29th meeting, the Assistant Secretary-General for Programme Planning, Budget and Accounts introduced the report of the Secretary-General on the Khmer Rouge trials (A/67/380) (see A/C.3/67/SR.29).

5. In paragraph 66 of his report of 2012 on the Khmer Rouge trials (A/67/380), the Secretary-General first alerted Member States to the adverse cash position and the steadily worsening financial position of the Extraordinary Chambers.

Since their establishment, and as detailed in the previous reports of the Secretary-General on the Khmer Rouge trials (A/58/617, A/59/432 and Add.1, A/60/565, A/62/304, A/67/380 and A/68/532), the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia have achieved substantial progress towards fulfilling their mandate.
