1 - يقدم هذا التقرير عملا بقرار الجمعية العامة 51/77 المؤرخ 12 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1996، الذي أنشأ ولاية الممثل الخاص للأمين العام المعني بالأطفال والصراع المسلح وطلب تقديم تقرير سنوي عن حالة الأطفال المتضررين من الصراع المسلح.

Concerted advocacy efforts on specific country situations during the reporting period, including on the situation of children affected by conflict in the Central African Republic, have led to a closer partnership with the authorities, increased international attention and operational commitments by child protection partners on the ground.

Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 48/157, the Secretary-General appointed Ms. Gracia Simbine Machel (Mozambique) as expert to undertake a study on the situation of children affected by armed conflicts, working in collaboration with the Centre for Human Rights and the United Nations Children's Fund.

I. Introduction 1. The present report is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 51/77, in which the Assembly established the mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict and requested the submission of an annual report on the situation of children affected by armed conflict.

1. The General Assembly, in its resolution 51/77, recommended that the Secretary—General appoint for a period of three years a Special Representative on the impact of armed conflict on children and requested the Special Representative to submit to the General Assembly and the Commission on Human Rights an annual report containing relevant information on the situation of children affected by armed conflict.
1- أوصت الجمعية العامة، في قرارها 51/77، الأمين العام بأن يعين، لفترة ثلاث سنوات، ممثلاً خاصاً يعنى بأثر النزاع المسلح على الأطفال وطلبت الى الممثل الخاص أن يقدم الى الجمعية العامة ولجنة حقوق الإنسان تقريراً سنوياً يتضمن معلومات ذات صلة بحالة الأطفال المتأثرين بالنزاع المسلح.

14. In paragraph 37 of its resolution 51/77, the General Assembly requested the Special Representative to submit to the General Assembly and the Commission on Human Rights an annual report containing relevant information on the situation of children affected by armed conflict, bearing in mind existing mandates and reports of relevant bodies.
14 - وفي الفقرة 37 من القرار 51/77، طلبت الجمعية العامة إلى الممثل الخاص أن يقدم إلى الجمعية العامة ولجنة حقوق الإنسان تقريرا سنويا يتضمن معلومات ذات صلة بحالة الأطفال المتأثرين بالنزاع المسلح، مع مراعاة الولايات القائمة وتقارير الهيئات ذات الصلة.

5. In paragraph 37 of its resolution 51/77, the General Assembly requested the Special Representative to submit to the Assembly and the Commission on Human Rights an annual report containing relevant information on the situation of children affected by armed conflict, bearing in mind existing mandates and reports of relevant bodies.
