We, Ministers and Government representatives, having met at the High-level Meeting on " African Agriculture in the Twenty-first Century: Meeting the Challenges, Making a Sustainable Green Revolution " , held in Windhoek on 9 and 10 February 2009, reaffirm our commitment to sustainable development in Africa and recognize the critical role of agriculture in the achievement of sustainable development in Africa.

Further welcomes the convening of the World Summit on Sustainable Development, to be held at Johannesburg, South Africa, from 26 August to 4 September 2002, as a significant opportunity to renew our commitment to sustainable development, the international development goals, Agenda 21, and the principles contained in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development;

14. As evidence of our commitment to sustainable development, small island developing States have made significant efforts at the national and regional levels to implement the Barbados Programme of Action and the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation.

The nineteenth special session of the General Assembly, on the overall review and appraisal of the implementation of Agenda 21, held last June, gave us the opportunity five years after the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, the Rio Conference, to renew and reinforce our commitment to sustainable development.
وإن الدورة الاستثنائية التاسعة عشرة للجمعية العامة، بشأن الاستعراض والتقييم الشاملين لتنفيذ جدول أعمال القرن ٢١، التي عقدت في حزيران/يونيه الماضي، أتاحت لنا الفرصة بعــــد مرور خمس سنوات على مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة المعني بالبيئـــة والتنمية، مؤتمر ريو، لتجديد وتعزيز التزامنا بالتنمية المستدامة.
