This session of the General Assembly takes place at a particularly complex juncture in the international situation, which is characterized by so many crises that I believe it is not an exaggeration to say that they challenge the very foundations of our international Organization.
تعقد دورة الجمعية العامة هذه في مرحلة معقدة بشكل خاص في الساحة العالمية التي تشهد الكثير من الأزمات، وأعتقد أنه يمكننا القول دون مغالاة إنها تتحدى الأسس التي قامت عليها منظمتنا الدولية ذاتها.

Revival of racial feuds, religious strife and incitement to hatred represents a serious threat to our aspirations in spreading the ideas of peace and love. It requires firm opposition from our international Organization.
وإن إعادة إحياء النعرات العنصرية والفتن الدينية والحض على الكراهية يمثلان تهديدا جديا لما نسموا له من نشر لأفكار السلام والمحبة، مما يتطلب مواجهة صارمة من منظمتنا الدولية.

It is high time that our international Organization moved to alleviate their suffering and dress their wounds, so that they may recover their livelihood and contribute anew to the development and prosperity of the region.
لقد عانى هذا الشعب وذاق مرارة اﻷلم بما فيه الكفاية، وقد آن اﻷوان أن تتحرك منظمتنا الدولية من أجل تخفيف معاناته والتئام جراحه لكي تعود له مقومات الحياة ويساهم مجددا في تنمية وازدهار المنطقة.

Mr. Wehbe (Syrian Arab Republic) (interpretation from Arabic): The General Assembly is once again discussing one of the important issues on its agenda for the reform of our international Organization.
السيد وهبه )الجمهورية العربية السورية(: تعود الجمعية العامة لمناقشة واحدة من المسائل الهامة المطروحة على جدول أعمال إصلاح منظمتنا الدولية.

We should therefore reflect on the method of functioning of the Committee, and especially of its Legal Subcommittee, and consider ways and means of tailoring its agenda to the real issues at stake, in line with the mandate of our international Organization.

Syria emphasizes that it views the votes of the Member States on today's General Assembly resolution as an indicator of the credibility of those States visàvis one of the important aspects of the work of our international Organization. We do not believe that there is any justification whatsoever for not voting in favour of this modest resolution.
تؤكد سوريا أنها تنظر إلى تصويت الدول الأعضاء على هذا القرار بوصفه معيارا لمصداقية هذه الدول إزاء أحد الجوانب الهامة في عمل منظمتنا الدولية، ولا نعتقد أنه يوجد أي مبرر لعدم التصويت لصالح هذا القرار المتواضع لأن الواجب الإنساني والمسؤولية الملقاة على منظمتنا الدولية في مواجهة الجرائم الإسرائيلية يفرضان ذلك.

Everything also hinges on the active role that our international Organization must play to maintain international peace and security, beginning with the implementation of Security Council resolutions 242 (1967) and 338 (1973). I hope that objectivity and the desire for peace will trump other options so that the Middle East can be ushered into a new, secure and prosperous era after decades of suffering.
والأمر متوقف أيضا على الدور الفاعل الذي يتوجب على منظمتنا الدولية أن تضطلع به لصون السلم والأمن بدءا من تنفيذ قراراتها خاصة منها القرارين 242 (1967) و 338 (1973) ويحدوني بالغ الأمل أن تنتصر الموضوعية وإرادة السلام، ليدخل الشرق الأوسط، بعد معاناة عقود، مرحلة جديدة آمنة ومزدهرة.

In conformity with its practice of flouting international law, Israel rejected the opinion of the International Court of Justice, as it has done with hundreds of General Assembly resolutions and dozens of Security Council resolutions, believing itself to be above the law, and launched an affront to our international Organization.
وانطلاقا من نهجها في تحدي القانون والشرعية الدولية، رفضت إسرائيل فتوى المحكمة، كما رفضت أساسا عشرات القرارات الصادرة عن مجلس الأمن والمئات من قرارات الجمعية العامة، ووجهت مزيدا من الإهانات لمنظمتنا الدولية واعتبرت نفسها فوق القانون.

We look forward to a future wherein the United Nations would play a fundamental role in assisting all the peoples of the Middle East to develop their economies and to improve their standards of living. We believe that the role the United Nations could play in supporting the Palestinian people in its first steps towards a just and comprehensive peace could be an example of that desired future role of our international Organization.
ونتطلع الى مستقبل تقوم فيه اﻷمم المتحدة بدور أساسي في مساعدة شعوب منطقة الشرق اﻷوسط جميعها في تنمية اقتصادياتها والارتقاء بمستوى شعوبها، ونعتقد أن الدور الذي تقوم به اﻷمم المتحدة لمساندة الشعب الفلسطيني في خطواته اﻷولى نحو الوصول الى سلام عادل وشامل يعد مثالا نموذجيا لهذا الدور المرتقب لمنظمتنا الدولية.
