The Expert Group on Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practices was established pursuant to decision SC-1/19, adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants at its first meeting, in May 2005.

As referred to in document UNEP/POPS/COP.6/21, the executive summary of the report of the Global Environment Facility to the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants at its sixth meeting is set out in the annex to the present note.

In fulfilment of the requirements of paragraph 4 of decision VIII/16, in April 2007 the Secretariat submitted decision VIII/16 and the technical guidelines to the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants at its third meeting for its consideration.
3 - ووفاء بمقتضيات أحكام الفقرة 4 من المقرر 8/16، قدمت الأمانة، في نيسان/أبريل 2007، المقرر 8/16 والمبادئ التوجيهية التقنية إلى مؤتمر الأطراف في اتفاقية استكهولم بشأن الملوثات العضوية الثابتة في اجتماعه الثالث للنظر فيهما.

The study has been extended to the other United Nations regions in 2010 - 2011 and the results will be presented to the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants at its fifth meeting, in April 2011 (53).

It was noted that a former plant which treated soil contaminated with a range of Persistent Organic Pollutants at the Sydney Olympic site in Australia had been decommissioned in 2003. Information on the only plant currently operating in Australia showed that the levels of emissions of PCDD/PCDF to air were very low, in the order of 0.0119-0.05 ng TEQ/m3N.
