6. In accordance with article 17, paragraph 6, of the Convention and rule 13 of the rules of procedure of the Committee, Mr. Georghios Pikis, by a letter dated 16 March 1998, informed the Secretary-General of his decision to cease his functions as a member of the Committee.

(a) Mr. Georghios M. Pikis has been the President of the Supreme Court of Cyprus for seven and a half years and has served as a judge of the Supreme Court for 21 years.
