In preparation for the fifty-seventh session of the Commission and in response to strong expectations for a successful conclusion of the session with the priority theme of " Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls " , UN-Women began consultations with key stakeholders at an early stage of the preparatory process for the session and to a much larger extent than undertaken in previous years.

Following a regional non-governmental organization expert consultation for Africa in preparation for the fifty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held in Nairobi on 5 and 6 November 2012, African civil society experts from North, East, Central, West and Southern Africa recommend the following actions as a matter of urgency.
