In accordance with the Syrian Penal Code promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 140 of 22 June 1949, as amended, abortion is prohibited. Articles 522 to 523 of the Code are devoted to the subject of contraceptive methods and abortion.

Article 45 of the Syrian Personal Status Act promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 59 of 1953 and the explanatory note thereto, as amended by Act No. 34 of 1975, together with the ratio legis of the amendment to the original, provides that:

Furthermore, we also find that men and women enjoy equal opportunities in the political sphere. The Electoral Law promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 26 of 1973 provides for the right of women to vote in public elections and to stand as candidates in elections to the People's Assembly.
53- ومن جهة أخرى نجد أن المرأة السورية تتمتع بفرص متكافئة مع الرجل في المضمار السياسي0 فقد أكّد قانون الانتخاب الصادر بالمرسوم التشريعي رقم 26 لعام 1973، على حق المرأة بالتصويت في الانتخابات العامة.

(c) Under the Emergency Act promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 51 of 22 December 1962, article 4 of which provides that:
(ج) عملا بقانون الطوارئ الصادر بالمرسوم التشريعي رقم 51 بتاريخ 22/12/1962 نصت الفقرة (و) من المادة 4 منه على ما يلي:

Nationality (in cases where is it established at a date subsequent to the birth of the individual concerned) is acquired by naturalization or marriage, in accordance with the current legislation promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 276 of 1969, in the following instances:
فيتم اكتسابها (الجنسية التي تثبت للفرد في تاريخ لاحق على ميلاده) وفقا لما أخذ به التشريع الحالي الصادر بالمرسوم التشريعي رقم 276 لعام 1969 بالتجنس والزواج وفق الحالات التالية:

5. Any debt mentioned in marriage or divorce papers shall be regarded as a debt confirmed in writing that is included under article 468, paragraph 1, of the Code of Procedure promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 84 of 1952.
5 - يعتبر كل دين يرد في وثائق الزواج أو الطلاق من الديون الثابتة بالكتابة ومشمولاً بالفقرة الأولى من المادة (468) من قانون أصول المحاكمات الصادر بالمرسوم التشريعي رقم /84/ لعام 1952.

This is affirmed in article 52 of the Syrian Civil Code promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 84 of 1949, which provides that: " Anyone who is the victim of an unlawful infringement of any of his personal rights is entitled to demand the cessation of such violation, together with compensation for the damage suffered. "
وهذا ما تؤكده المادة 52 من القانون المدني السوري الصادر بالمرسوم التشريعي رقم 84 لعام 1949، والتي تنص على أن: " كل من وقع عليه اعتداء غير مشروع في حق من الحقوق الملازمة لشخصه، أن يطلب وقف هذا الاعتداء مع التعويض عما يكون قد لحقه من ضرر " .

The law defines the terms of appointment, promotion, transfer, discipline and removal of judges (article 136 of the Constitution). The Judicial Authority Act promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 98 of 15 November 1961 specifies that judges are appointed by a decree drafted by the Minister of Justice on the basis of a decision by the Higher Judiciary Council before the decree is issued by the President of the Republic.
202- يبين القانون شروط تعيين القضاة وترفيعهم ونقلهم وتأديبهم وعزلهم (المادة 136 من الدستور)، وإن قانون السلطة القضائية الصادر بالمرسوم التشريعي رقم 98 تاريخ 15 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1961، يبين أصول تعيين القضاة بمرسوم يقترحه وزير العدل بناء على قرار مجلس القضاء الأعلى قبل أن يصدره رئيس الجمهورية.

The father, ascendants and descendants of the fourth degree on the father's side have the right to exercise guardianship, wardship and trusteeship over children, as prescribed in the following articles of the Personal Status Act, promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 59 of 1953 and the explanatory note thereto, as amended by Act No. 34 of 1975, together with the ratio legis of the amendment to the original:
يعتبر الأب والأصول والفروع من الدرجة الرابعة من طرف الأب هم أصحاب الولاية والوصاية والقوامة على الأطفال وهو ما نصت عليه المواد التالية من قانون الأحوال الشخصية السوري الصادر بالمرسوم التشريعي رقم /59/ لعام 1953 ومذكرته الإيضاحية المعدل بالقانون رقم /34/ لعام 1975 وأسبابه الموجبة معدلاً ومضبوطاً على الأصل:

The Code of Criminal Procedure promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 46 of 2002 deals with all the safeguards relating to the circumstances of arrests and searches, the persons empowered to carry them out and the bodies with competence for issuing pre-trial detention orders and for extending court orders in accordance with compulsory weekly reviews before the competent court.
123- وقد تناول قانون الإجراءات الجنائية الصادر بالمرسوم بقانون رقم 46 لسنة 2002 كافة الضمانات التي تتعلق بأحوال القبض والتفتيش والأشخاص المخولين بذلك والجهات المختصة بإصدار أوامر الحبس الاحتياطي وتمديده بالأوامر القضائية استناداً للمراجعة الأسبوعية الوجوبية أمام المحكمة المختصة.
