In addition to providing for protection from the physical act of sexual exploitation, the Convention prohibits arbitrary or unlawful interference with a child's privacy or unlawful attacks on his or her honour and reputation, and gives the child the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks (article 16).

57. Article 17 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights goes on to guarantee that " everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks " , thus including an explicit guarantee of protection against interference by private parties.

The Committee also wishes to draw attention to the provisions of article 16 of the Convention, under which " no child shall be subjected to arbitrary or unlawful interference with his or her privacy, family, home or correspondence ... " , and he or she has the " right to protection of the law against such interference or attacks " .
