In other words, the Court found that it had jurisdiction to hear the principal claim submitted by Nicaragua, namely that the 82nd meridian does not constitute a maritime boundary; it also found that it had jurisdiction to hear Nicaragua's claim concerning the Roncador, Serrana and Quitasueño keys and all other maritime features in the area, except for the three named islands, i.e. San Andrés, Santa Catalina and Providencia.

After careful consideration of the parties' arguments, the Court found that the treaty signed by Colombia and Nicaragua in 1928 settled the issue of sovereignty over the islands of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina within the meaning of the Pact of Bogota, invoked by Nicaragua as a basis of jurisdiction in the case.
