Pursuant to General Assembly resolutions 48/218 B of 29 July 1994 and 54/244 of 23 December 1999, the Secretary-General has the honour to transmit, for the attention of the General Assembly, the attached report, conveyed to him by the Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services, on the audit of a contract for the provision of airfield services in the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
1 - عملا بأحكام قراري الجمعية العامة 48/218 باء المؤرخ 29 تموز/يوليه 1994 و 54/244 المؤرخ 23 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1999، يتشرف الأمين العام بأن يحيل، لعناية الجمعية العامة، التقرير المرفق، المقدم إليه من وكيل الأمين العام لخدمات الرقابة الداخلية، بشأن مراجعة حسابات عقد تقديم خدمات المطارات إلى بعثة منظمة الأمم المتحدة في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية.

14. Ms. Stern (Director of the Internal Audit Division, Office of Internal Oversight Services), introducing the note by the Secretary-General on the audit of a contract for the provision of airfield services in MONUC (A/56/906), said that the review of the contract showed that the objective of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations to meet the urgent operational requirements of MONUC had not been achieved.

72. Mr. Gillette (Chairman of the Audit Operations Committee, United Nations Board of Auditors) welcomed the continued importance attached to the work of the Board by the Committee, ACABQ and OIOS. Replying to a question posed by the representative of South Africa concerning the provision of airfield services at MONUC, he said that no performance reports had been forwarded to the Procurement Division prior to the renewal of the contract.
72- السيد جيليت (رئيس لجنة عمليات المراجعة، مجلس مراجعي حسابات الأمم المتحدة): رحب باستمرار الأهمية المعطاة لعمل المجلس واللجنة، واللجنة الاستشارية لشؤون الإدارة والميزانية، ومكتب خدمات الرقابة الداخلية؛ وردَّ على سؤال طرحته ممثلة جنوب إفريقيا بشأن تقديم خدمات المطارات في بعثة الأمم المتحدة في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية، فقال إنه لم يقدَّم أي تقرير أداء إلى شعبة المشتريات قبل تجديد العقد.

49. The Advisory Committee was informed that the Mission continues to use the same contractor for the provision of airfield services.
