The issue of the resurgence of racist incidents in sporting events, to which the Special Rapporteur has granted particular attention in preceding reports to the General Assembly and the Commission on Human Rights, remains more than ever a contemporary issue, in particular in the world of football.

Although at its fifty-ninth session, the General Assembly noted with appreciation the efforts taken by certain sports bodies to combat racism, it did again express its concern over the increase in racist incidents in sport.
وأحاطت الجمعية العامة علماً مع التقدير في دورتها التاسعة والخمسين بما بذلته بعض الهيئات الرياضية من جهود لمكافحة العنصرية فأعربت من جديد عن قلقها إزاء تزايد الحوادث العنصرية في المجال الرياضي.

Like the Special Rapporteur, it had also condemned and addressed racist incidents in sports in Europe.

Members are encouraged, inter alia, to create national mechanisms to record racist incidents in sporting events and ensure that legislation aimed at preventing and sanctioning racist offences in sports is effectively implemented.
