17. Mr. Rahmtalla (the Sudan) said that since the North and the South had joint responsibility for the eradication of poverty and for dealing with environmental and other problems, international cooperation must be strengthened.

38. Mr. Rahmtalla (Sudan) said that his delegation rejected the notion that the motion by the Group of 77 and China to adjourn the debate was an act of hostility against the representative of Egypt and paid tribute to that representative's hard work on the draft resolution.

34. Mr. Rahmtalla (Sudan) wondered what specific ideas the High Commissioner had with regard to the creation of an international early-warning mechanism to avert conflict that could give rise to gross human-rights violations.

56. Mr. Rahmtalla (Sudan), speaking in exercise of the right of reply, said that the allegations made by the United States delegation were false, superfluous and malicious.
