Finally, with regard to guideline 1.4 (Unilateral statements other than reservations and interpretative declarations), his delegation was of the view that it must be included in the draft because it enabled a more in-depth study to be undertaken and contributed to a better understanding of the subject.

40. With regard to guideline 1.1, which is noteworthy for being an amalgam of the definitions of reservations contained in the Vienna Conventions on the Law of Treaties, it is reassuring to note that most speakers endorsed the composite method used in adopting the general definition.

With regard to guideline 4.1.2 (establishment of a reservation to a treaty which has to be applied in its entirety), his delegation shared the view that the concept of a plurilateral treaty had shifted towards that of a treaty the integrity of which must be ensured. The guideline and commentary thereto seemed to reflect adequately the importance of the object and purpose of treaties.
