The General Assembly noted the ongoing work of the liaison group of the secretariats and officers of the relevant subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Convention on Biological Diversity, and encouraged continuing cooperation to promote complementarities among the three secretariats while respecting their independent legal status.

In addition to these arrangements and the reviews of the terms of reference of individual subsidiary bodies, which have already taken place or are planned, it may be desirable to carry out in due course an overall review of the mandates of all relevant subsidiary bodies of the Economic and Social Council to ensure that the machinery in its totality is conducive to an effective and coordinated follow-up to global conferences.

At its substantive session of 2008, the Council requested the functional commissions, the regional commissions and other relevant subsidiary bodies of the Economic and Social Council, in accordance with their mandates, as appropriate, to contribute to the annual ministerial review and to the Development Cooperation Forum, in the context of their respective annual workplans, taking into account their specificities.
