14. In this connection, it is noteworthy to recall that the report of the independent expert for the United Nations study on violence against children, Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro (A/61/299), was submitted to the General Assembly at its sixty-first session.

Mr. Adekanye (Nigeria) expressed concern at the difficult situation of children in many parts of the world as depicted in the report of the independent expert for the United Nations study on violence against children (A/61/299), stressed the urgent need to implement the recommendations made by the independent expert and expressed support for the appointment of a special representative of the Secretary-General on violence against children.

Furthermore, the Committee would like to draw the States party's attention to the report of the independent expert for the United Nations study on violence against children (A/61/299) and to encourage the State party to take all appropriate measures to implement overarching recommendations as well as setting-specific recommendations contained in this report.
