While it acknowledged the efforts of the Department to fulfil its role of providing effective support for the fifty-eighth session of the General Assembly, the report of the Secretary-General on the reform of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (A/59/172) had made certain value judgements in connection with the sensitive and sometimes controversial discussions on the revitalization of the General Assembly.
