11. Requests the administering Powers concerned to facilitate the participation of appointed and elected representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories in the relevant meetings and conferences of the specialized agencies and other organizations of the United Nations system so that the Territories may benefit from the related activities of those agencies and organizations;

I welcome, in particular, members of the Committee, Secretariat, resource persons, representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories and non-governmental organizations, who will be participating in today’s United Nations Pacific regional seminar on decolonization.
وأخص بالترحيب أعضاء اللجنة واﻷمانة العامة والخبراء وممثلي اﻷقاليم غير المتمتعة بالحكم الذاتي والمنظمات غير الحكومية الذين سيشاركون اليوم في الحلقة الدراسية اﻹقليمية لﻷمم المتحدة حول إنهاء الاستعمار.

The activities to be undertaken in that connection include a seminar in the Caribbean region to be organized by the Special Committee in 1999, to be attended by representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories.

Noting that the Plan of Action for the International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism provided for the holding of seminars alternately in the Caribbean and the Pacific regions, the Working Group decided to recommend to the Special Committee that it should organize in 1996 a seminar in the Pacific region, to be attended, in particular, by representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories in the region.

6. The Seminar held six meetings in which representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations, as well as eminent persons invited as special guests, took part (for further details, see annex III to the present report).

1 - الاستماع إلى ممثلين عن الأقاليم غير المتمتعة بالحكم الذاتي

In the view of my delegation - a view supported by several statements made at the seminar by representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories of the Pacific - what emerged from those discussions was, inter alia, that there is a paucity of information to and from those Territories regarding the economic, social, cultural and political conditions in each Territory.
ويرى وفدي - وقد أيد هذا الرأي ممثلو اﻷقاليم غير المتمتعة بالحكم الذاتي في منطقة المحيط الهادئ في البيانات التي ادلوا بها في تلك الحلقة الدراسية - إن هذه المناقشات أظهرت، في جملة أمور، قلة المعلومات المرسلة إلى تلك اﻷقاليم والخارجة منها بشأن اﻷوضاع الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية والسياسية في كل إقليم.

The dissemination of information on decolonization, the holding of regional seminars with the participation of representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories, and the sending of United Nations visiting missions to the Territories were effective means of attaining that goal.
