290. Delegations recalled the duty of all States under article 100 of UNCLOS to cooperate to the fullest extent possible in the repression of piracy on the high seas and in any other place outside the jurisdiction of any State.

Bearing in mind the Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden (Djibouti Code of Conduct),

16. In my previous report, I noted that the Djibouti Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden had entered into force on 29 January 2009 with the signatures of nine regional States.

43. The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs, as the secretariat of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, has a mandate to assist States and international organizations in the uniform and consistent application of the provisions of the Convention, including those relating to the repression of piracy.

Those bases enable a large number of States to fulfil their duty to cooperate in the repression of piracy to the fullest possible extent in accordance with article 100 of the Convention, a duty that was reaffirmed in Security Council resolution 1918 (2010).
