We welcome the review of the implementation of resolution 61/105 that took place in September, particularly on the issue of bottom trawling.

Mr. Errázuriz (Chile) (spoke in Spanish): It was an honour for Chile to lead the informal consultations of the General Assembly on the review of the implementation of resolution 61/16 on the strengthening of the Economic and Social Council.

At the outset, we would like to commend Ambassador Octavio Errázuriz, Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations, for his vigorous efforts and leadership in conducting the informal consultations on the review of the implementation of resolution 61/16 on the strengthening of the Economic and Social Council.

My delegation would also like to commend Ambassador Octavio Errázuriz, appointed by the President of the General Assembly at its sixty-fifth session to facilitate the review of the implementation of resolution 61/16, which established the main elements of the current structure of the substantive session of the Council: the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) and the annual ministerial review, among other innovations.
ويود وفد بلدي أن يُشيد أيضاً بالسفير أوكتافيو إرازوريز، الذي عينه رئيس الجمعية العامة في دورتها الخامسة والستين لتيسير استعراض تنفيذ القرار 61/16، الذي أرسى العناصر الرئيسية للبنية الراهنة للدورة الموضوعية للمجلس: منتدى التعاون الإنمائي والاستعراض الوزاري السنوي، بين مبتكَرات أخرى.

In the past, the review of the implementation of resolution 1540 (2004), the Committee established pursuant to which I chaired, was a significant step forward in preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction among non-State actors.

Also at that session, the General Assembly took note of the report of the President of the General Assembly on the review of the implementation of resolution 61/16 on the strengthening of the Economic and Social Council (A/65/866, annex) and decided to review further the implementation of resolution 61/16 at its sixty-seventh session (resolution 65/285) (also relates to item 114).

Member States will recall that the final report and recommendations on the review of the implementation of resolution 61/16 at the sixty-fifth session was circulated in the annex to document A/65/866.
