We do not believe that it is desirable to continue to restrict the number of meetings available for the general debate, although we could make better use of the rolling list.
ولا نعتقد بأن من المرغوب فيه مواصلة قصر عدد الجلسات المخصصة للمناقشة العامة، رغم أن بإمكاننا أن نستخدم القائمة المتجددة استخداما أفضل.

Despite our having agreed on the desirability of having a rolling list of speakers, the way in which delegations have placed their names on the speakers' list is in line with the practices of the past: they have inscribed their names to speak on specific dates and have not shown great willingness to adapt to the new format of a rolling list.
ورغم اتفاقنا على استصواب القائمة المتجددة للمتكلمين، فإن الطريقة التي يسجل بها المتكلمون أسماءهم في قائمة المتكلمين تماثل ممارسات الماضي: فهم سجلوا أسماءهم للتكلم في مواعيد محددة ولم يبدوا استعدادا كبيرا للتكيف مع الشكل الجديد للقائمة المتجددة.

In that respect, we understand that flexibility is essential, both on the part of the incoming Chairman -- who, we hope, will follow your example -- and on the part of members, who made their contributions and were ready to make their statements within this system of a rolling list and to take full advantage of conference services.

It is my firm belief that the First Committee has again set the benchmark for all other Committees to follow in terms of its effective management of time and efficient use of conference facilities, particularly in connection with the use of the rolling list of speakers for the general debate and the interactive discussions that the Committee held.
