On 18 May 1996, a group of more than 20 uniformed and plainclothes policemen burst into the Sassene family's home in Constantine.

ولذا تخلص اللجنة إلى أن اختفاء رشيد ساسين قسراً منذ ما يزيد على 18 عاماً قد حرمه من حماية القانون ومن حقه في أن يُعترف له بالشخصية القانونية، وهو ما يشكّل انتهاكاً للمادة 16 من العهد.

4.2 The State party further points out that the Rachid Sassene case is still pending, being under consideration by the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances of the Human Rights Council.

وفي هذه الحالة، وجهت أسرة رشيد ساسين انتباه السلطات المختصة، وتحديداً وكيل الجمهورية، إلى اختفاء هذا الأخير بيد أن الدولة الطرف لم تبادر إلى فتح أي تحقيق متعمق ودقيق في هذا الاختفاء ولم تتلق صاحبة البلاغ سوى معلومات غير واضحة ومتضاربة.

On 27 April 1997, the author received an official report from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Constantine Prefecture notifying her that the results of its search were negative and that Mr. Sassene " had never been summoned by the Department " .
