16. A number of different electronic signature techniques have been developed over the years.

After discussion, the Working Group confirmed its decision that, while focusing on the preparation of specific provisions dealing with digital signature techniques, it should also extract from those specific provisions rules of more general application to accommodate alternative authentication techniques.
