5. In this context, the Arzew National Centre for Space Technology (CNTS), apart from its duties in relation to training, has emphasized two particular types of research within its overall research and development programme, namely small satellite technology and space instrumentation.

(a) An understanding of the World Summit on Sustainable Development framework, the context of sustainable development, the role of small satellite technology in that context and the capabilities of the relevant space technology-based tools, solutions and information resources, as well as strategies for including such tools in the relevant decision-making processes;

The Committee endorsed the programme of workshops, training courses, symposiums and expert meetings related to water resources management, socio-economic benefits of space activities, small satellite technology for sustainable development, space weather, global navigation satellite systems, search and rescue and space law, planned to be held in 2010 for the benefit of developing countries.
82- وأيّدت اللجنة برنامج حلقات العمل والدورات التدريبية والندوات واجتماعات الخبراء المتعلقة بإدارة الموارد المائية، والفوائد الاقتصادية والاجتماعية للأنشطة الفضائية، واستخدام تكنولوجيا السواتل الصغيرة من أجل التنمية المستدامة، والطقس الفضائي، والنظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة، والبحث والإنقاذ، وقانون الفضاء، المزمع عقدها في عام 2010 لصالح البلدان النامية.

Notes with appreciation that the activities planned by the United Nations Programme on Space Applications for 2010 would address, inter alia, water resources management, socio-economic benefits of space activities, small satellite technology for sustainable development, space weather, global navigation satellite systems, search and rescue and space law;

The Subcommittee noted that the activities of the Programme in 2010 (see para. 35 below) would place emphasis on the following areas, inter alia: socio-economic benefits of space activities, small satellite technology for sustainable development, space weather, global navigation satellite systems, mountain regions and space law.
