With security guarantees from the Abkhaz side, UNOMIG conducted 11 patrols of the lower Kodori valley while rotating its personnel at the temporary observation post co-located with the CIS peacekeeping force checkpoint near the socalled Broken Bridge, which marks the entrance to the upper Kodori valley.

19. On the same day, just after the incident described above, the CIS peacekeeping force post 302, together with UNOMIG temporary observation post " Golf " , was surrounded and, in effect, neutralized, by a sizeable and well armed force of about 70 to 80 personnel and vehicles of the Georgian Criminal Police and Ministry of Internal Affairs troops who took control of the barriers.

28. Following the withdrawal of the CIS peacekeeping force, the Mission withdrew its temporary observation post, which was co-located, for security and logistics reasons, with the former CIS peacekeeping post in the north-eastern corner of the Zugdidi sector, and which had monitored the movement on the road to the upper Kodori Valley.

21. During the reporting period, the UNOMIG temporary observation post, colocated with CIS peacekeeping post 302 in the Zugdidi security zone, observed 32 ground movements of Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs personnel in the direction of the upper Kodori Valley, of which 14 were notified by the Georgian side.
