At its seventh session, the SBSTA noted the activities under way by the secretariat related to the technology needs survey and the preparation of reports on terms of transfer of technology and adaptation technology.

The SBI took note of the conclusions of the SBSTA concerning the preparation of a paper on information regarding the terms of transfer of technology and know-how, and stressed the need to give greater clarity and content in the preparation of this paper to the terms and mechanisms of technology transfer.

4. The objectives of the Centre are to assist the members and associate members of ESCAP through strengthening their capabilities to develop and manage national innovation systems; develop, transfer, adapt and apply technology; improve the terms of transfer of technology; and identify and promote the development and transfer of technologies relevant to the region.

4. As noted in the first technical paper of the secretariat on terms of transfer of technology and know-how (TP/1997/1), multilateral institutions and programmes facilitate the transfer of technology by supporting capacity-building activities such as strengthening institutional capacity, establishing research centres and funding demonstration projects.
