The essential role of bilateral and international cooperation, including South-South cooperation, and the exchange of information and best practices in the area of alternative development was also noted.
70- وأُشير أيضاً إلى الدور الأساسي الذي يؤديه التعاون الثنائي والدولي، بما فيه التعاون فيما بين بلدان الجنوب، وتبادل المعلومات والممارسات الفضلى في مجال التنمية البديلة.

69. One speaker expressed the view that the capacity of UNODC in the area of alternative development needed to be strengthened in order to enhance the capacity of UNODC to provide technical assistance to Member States and its field offices in the areas of policy development and project design, execution, evaluation and monitoring.
69- وأعرب أحد المتحدّثين عن رأي مفاده أن من الضروري تعزيز قدرة المكتب في مجال التنمية البديلة بغية زيادة قدراته على تقديم المساعدة التقنية للدول الأعضاء ومكاتبه الميدانية في مجالات وضع السياسات وتصميم المشاريع وتنفيذها وتقييمها ورصدها.

(c) Participants noted the work and expertise of UNODC in the area of alternative development and called on UNODC to continue providing guidance and technical assistance, in cooperation with relevant international agencies;
(ج) نوَّه المشاركون بما يقوم به مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدِّرات والجريمة من أعمال في مجال التنمية البديلة وبما يتمتَّع به من خبرات فنية في هذا المجال، وأهابوا به أن يواصل توفير الإرشاد والمساعدة التقنية بالتعاون مع الوكالات الدولية المعنية؛

Its activities in the area of alternative development, i.e., the provision of alternative sources of livelihood for those currently dependent on income from the illicit cultivation of opium or coca bush, can be considered also as poverty alleviation measures, since such illicit cultivation occurs in remote rural areas often afflicted by long-term poverty problems.
