In the area of tourism, for example, the Government and the private sector have undertaken such projects as the following: the cleaning of the beaches, the Anandale Welcome Centre, the Wobunn Conch Shell Project and the Mount Carmel Falls project, which is an excellent example of community involvement.

Lack of fair competition in the area of tourism could directly affect the efficiency, viability and sustainability of tourism in developing countries, especially given the limited ability of developing countries to counter its effects.

The above environmental impacts of tourism need to be addressed by international agencies (information on the activities of the United Nations Environment Programme in the area of tourism may be found in document UNEP/GCSS.IX/INF/12), Governments, non-governmental organizations, local communities and private sector tourism enterprises, working together.
