As explained in paragraphs 18 and 43 above, engineering project and planning activities are currently conducted at UNLB by two distinct units, one within the Engineering Standardization and Design Centre, focused on support for United Nations field operations, and the other within the Planning and Project Unit of the Campus Support Section of the Base Support Service, focused on domestic activities.

48. The Secretary-General is proposing a large number of internal redeployments, mostly within the Base Support Service, in relation to the consolidation and streamlining of existing UNLB support capacities and the establishment of the Campus Support Section (see para. 20 above).

In addition to the redeployed posts from the Transport and Supply Sections, one post of Inventory and Supply Assistant (national General Service staff) is proposed to be redeployed from the Campus Support Section and one post of Supply Officer (P-3) is proposed to be established with its concurrent abolishment in the Logistics Support Division in the Department of Field Support at Headquarters.

52. The current capacity of the Campus Support Section is limited and with approximately 550 on-base users, the additional technical expertise will allow for improved service performance and maintenance of the Lotus Notes infrastructure to reduce downtime and allocate the responsibility for Lotus Notes applications beyond one Lotus Notes Administrator, which would not otherwise be a sustainable long-term arrangement.

The Committee points out, however, that with the consolidation and streamlining of existing support capacities, the Campus Support Section will include a total of 46 General Service posts/positions.
